The most affordable hybrid car in Malaysia just got cheaper! The Honda Jazz Hybrid is now available in CKD form (built in Malaysia, being the first hybrid car produced in Malaysia), priced at RM89,900. It’s a RM5k reduction compared to its CBU counterpart, which was previously the lowest priced hybrid car in Malaysia.

The CKD has up to 10% locally sourced parts and the figure is expected to increase gradually in the future. The same 1.3 litre iVTEC + IMA powerplant is used for the Jazz CKD. Minimum changes have been implemented to the exterior of the Jazz Hybrid CKD. Note the slightly different taillight cluster in the CKD compared to the CBU’s (see below).

Honda is updating its 2013 CR-Z sport hybrid in the U.S. market. The updated 2013 Honda CR-Z will be officially available on November 21, 2012 with a starting price of $19,975. The 2013 CR-Z comes with revised interior and exterior and a more powerful engine.

Engine and specification:

The 2013 Honda CR-Z is equipped with a 1.5 liter petrol engine; it has a capacity to deliver 121 horsepower of maximum power. In addition, it is also equipped with a whole new lithium-ion battery pack has a capacity to deliver 20 horsepower (up from 14 horsepower) of maximum power. The total output produced now by the 1.5 liter gasoline engine and by the electric motor now stands at 130 HP of maximum power and 189 Nm of torque.  Meanwhile, the engine will be available with two transmission options consist of a standard six-speed manual transmission or optional CVT. Looks like the age of electric cars is slowly but surely upon us, despite the fact that Malaysia is not yet ready to accept this technology on our roads; carmakers are producing more and more plug-in hybrid vehicles, the latest of which would be Honda with its Accord Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) sedan. This new offering from Honda is able to travel for up to 24k on pure electricity, and total drive range exceeds 800km, which is definitely decent.

In collaboration with the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Vehicles (MIROS), Honda Malaysia sponsored a brand new Honda City to be used in the NCAP crash lab located in Melacca. Phase I of the crash test will involve a series of sedans and compact cars undergoing the test at 63.6km/h. Another Honda City will be used in the Official ASEAN NCAP crash test in December, to ratify the test results.
