For decades now, we have been bugged with the issue of countless accidents occurring on our roads, numbers that increase substantially with every festive season. The government is now mulling the option of introducing mandatory jail sentences for reckless and inconsiderate drivers, especially for those that cause death and fatalities during accidents. We have realized that trying to educate drivers and other road users in Malaysia has not exactly worked, as admitted by Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein. And the time is right for more drastic moves in order to secure the safety of our roads, thus if this mandatory jail term might help to reduce and eventually eliminate dangerous drivers from our roads, this would definitely be the way to go!

When you are to purchase a used car, it may seem like a simple job. But think clearly, being faced with approximately 3.3 million vehicles to choose from at a go? It can be tedious and stressful. When this happens, the insides of driver’s preference will emerge which can be a rather interesting scene to look at.

According to the director of marketing of Vista.com, Krista Glotzbach, a San Francisco based company that provides vehicle search engine for AOL Autos, the transformation in the used car business is everlasting. But, potential buyers should not be turned off by this, because with the help of several features of the search engine such as search filter, vehicle fashion statement where you can select the preference color and budget range can assist you in filtering and showing you only those cars of your preference. This will then allows buyer to have a pleasant shopping experience on used cars. Besides, with the program used by Vast.com called a web ‘crawls’, which is a automated Internet search on information about the vehicle enables buyers to have extra knowledge on the desired vehicle.

Alza SR = Smart Ride?

Initially this was supposed to be a simple news announcement on Perodua’s cheapest Alza, the SR. But after second thoughts from SR’s definition for “Smart Ride”, I instead decided to voice my opinion on this so-called ‘smarter cheaper” car.

For those who do not know, the SR is basically an entry level of the compact people carrier with a savings of about RM2500 compared to the standard version. Thus, prices start from a lower RM53013.50 (BX MT solid color) to RM56513.50 (BZ AT metallic color). This version makes to do without:

-         rear wiper

-         foot operated parking brakes in the auto version (replaced by typical central column hand-operated unit)

-         “UV protected glass” for just the windscreen as to all glass panels

-         electric operated wing mirrors (replaced by manual operated)

-         fog lamps

-         passenger air bag

-         font bench seat (replaced by typical individual seat setup)

-         ABS, ABD and BA

Perodua Alza SR – Better Value !

What you are seeing above is the newly launched variant of Perodua Alza - the SR. I bet you’ll have a tough time spotting the difference of it and a standard Alza. For the SR (means Smart Ride, in this case), it has no fog lights, door visor, rear wiper, chrome and body-coloured B-pillar on the outside, and worth praising Perodua is that the alloy wheel remained for this base line model. This proves that style does not have to be sacrificed in order to get lower price. A wheel cover will really mess up the whole design of a car.

Holden Monaro: New Young Blood

Bob Lutz, the GM of North America, had made his intention known in the New York auto show in April in which he will be importing a new range of Pontiac GTO into the American market. So what exactly is Lutz’s choice? It is Australian made and goes by the name Holden Monaro. His interest on the car grew during his last visit to Australian. Being the most popular V8 model there (also available in V6 version), Lutz took the car for a spin in a local track in the western city of Perth. What came to his amaze was that the handling of the vehicle fairly contradicts with the older generation of GTOs.
