The most affordable hybrid car in Malaysia just got cheaper! The 2013 Honda Jazz Hybrid is now available in CKD form (built in Malaysia, being the first hybrid car produced in Malaysia), priced at RM89,900. It’s a RM5k reduction compared to its CBU counterpart, which was previously the lowest priced hybrid car in Malaysia.
The CKD has up to 10% locally sourced parts and the figure is expected to increase gradually in the future. The same Honda 1.3 litre iVTEC + IMA powerplant is used for the Jazz CKD. Minimum changes have been implemented to the exterior of the Jazz Hybrid CKD. Note the slightly different taillight cluster in the CKD compared to the CBU’s (see below).
Unfortunately, the CKD has had some features taken off from its list. Features such as cruise control, shift paddle, steering mounted audio button and automatic wipers have been omitted. The S-mode on the gear selection has also been replaced with an L-mode. The signal stalk has also been moved to the right-side instead of left in the CBU model.
Safety wise, the number of airbags have also been reduced to two as opposed to six available in the CBU model. Rear drum brakes have been fitted instead of an all-round disc brake that’s available in the CBU and the Hill Start Assist is also gone. Tankfully, Vehicle Stability Assist and the 4 corner reverse sensors have remained on the CKD model. Jazz Hybrid now comes with a three-year or 10,000km warranty, six-month or 10,000km free service and five-year or 140,000km warranty for the IMA battery.
With so many features missing in the Jazz CKD, paying the extra RM5k for the CBU model could be justified. But for those who prefer the Jazz CKD model, don’t wait to long, as Honda will stop selling the existing CKD models once they are sold out!
