It’s been 12 months since the MP4-12C was officially launched – and an upgrade since then – but the guys at McLaren have already lost their tops. Or more precisely, they’ve gone and chopped off the roof of the supercar, resulting in what they call the 12C Spider. 616bhp from a twin turbo, mid-engined V8 and with all the noise and smell for the driver to enjoy.
The 12C Spider is based on the same super stiff carbon fibre MonoCell chassis as its hardtop sibling and so will be just as dynamic to drive. But removing the roof will dial up the sensations experienced, the emotions felt and the noise heard. Especially at the speeds the 12C Spider will be capable of. And true to McLaren’s ethos of offering high performance without compromise, the 12C Spider will be more usable than any car this exciting has a right to be.
Check out the video below and you’ll see a rather familiar face with an even more familiar name of Jenson Button talk about driving a machine that is literally open to the driver at high speeds. Although, we can’t be really sure if he’s talking about the 12C Spider or his MP4-27 which he and a guy named Lewis Hamilton is racing with in F1.
Unfortunately, detailed information on this new and emotive addition to the McLaren Automotive range will be released only in the next few days. Ron Dennis is waiting for your money, now.
