RM788,800 = BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe

By 10 months ago

A few hours ago BMW Malaysia launched what could be the most beautiful car designed since… well, quite a while. The 6 Series Gran Coupe is quite literally the riposte to Mercedes’ wildly successful CLS – a coupe design but with four doors. Since Audi has come out with their own version of this body form, the Munich manufacturer may be the last among its immediate peers, but based on looks alone, the 6 Gran Coupe wins the first impressions war.

For the time being, only the 640i variant is available and BMW Malaysia is yet to commit on providing additional variants, but with 320hp (5800-6000rpm) and 450Nm (1300-4500rpm) from the TwinPower Turbo 3.0 litre inline six petrol engine, there’s plenty of muscle to keep things interesting. 0-100kmh requires just 5.4 seconds with drive provided to the rear wheels via an 8-speed auto box. As standard with the EfficientDynamics technology, Auto Start/Stop is standard (but can be switched off) together with Driving Experience Control –enabling the driver to choose between comfort, sports or Eco Pro mode. The manufacturer claims an average fuel consumption of 7.8 liters per 100km, with CO2 emission of 181 grams per km.

Although it may appear that the 6 Series Gran Coupe is simply meshing the design qualities of the 5 with the 6 Series, the end result is simply stunning. It has got a convincing stance, one which projects its sportiness but also stand with elegance. It is the details – the light cluster at both ends are somewhat compressed, making it appear longer and enhancing its wide and low structure. The third brake light enhances this as it is integrated into the roof edge that spans the entire width of the rear window.

We’ll provide additional information of the new 6 Series Gran Coupe within the next few days. Price? RM788,800 with the Premium Package adding another RM50,000 into the sum.
