, which was introduced to the Malaysian market in October 2011. It is worth to note that the GT and SW GT are the first diesel-burning Peugeot sold by the official distributor of the French marque. The rest in the line-up are powered by petrol engines.
“Today’s launch is a milestone for both Nasim and Peugeot in Malaysia as it marks our entry into the diesel segment. Diesel technology offers consumers an exciting proposition: more torque but lower fuel consumption,” said Dato’ Samson Anand George, COO of Nasim.
508 GT and 508 SW GT
You can expect the torque rich nature of this 2.2 litre HDi FAP powerplant easily – a massive 450Nm to the front wheels, while power is rated at 204bhp. It is a compelling piece of engineering which incorporates titanium turbocharger impeller (being lightweight, it spools more freely), optimisation of friction, piezo-electric injectors with eight apertures and optimised combustion chambers. Both these variants are equipped with a 6-speed auto gearbox with paddle shifter. Fuel consumption on the 508 GT is 5.7-litres per 100 km on a mixed cycle while the 508 SW GT achieves a consumption of 5.9-litres per 100 km.
Furthermore, the HDi technology in both variants is combined with a Particle Emission Filter (FAP) which is an extremely high-performance emission control system. The FAP is a self-cleaning system which treats the gas that is emitted from the combustion of diesel in the engine and reduces diesel particles.
Peugeot’s in Malaysia are already known to be armed to the teeth with exceptional standard gear – the new 508’s continue this trend and includes nappa leather seats, intelligent keyless push-start ignition, auto quad zone auto airconditioning, 8-way electric front seats (with massage and memory function), 20-speaker JBL audio system, colour heads-up display and 5-dial instrument panel with colour LCD. In addition, hill-start assist, bi-xenon headlights, a panoramic glass roof and motorised tailgate which can be controlled from the driver’s seat are also included as standard. Passive and active safety systems include 6 airbags, ESP, ABS, EBD, Anti Skid Regulation and DSC. Nasim has also added in Available Space Measurement which is a system that aids the driver during parallel parking manoeuvres.
The on-the-road prices of the 508 GT and the 508 SW GT are RM199,888 and RM209,888 respectively.
508 SW
No surprises with the drivetrain here – the famed 1.6 litre twin-scroll Prince engine is mated to a 6-speed auto with paddle shifters. Like the 508 SW GT, the panoramic glass roof in the 508 SW allows passengers to benefit from fully from exterior light and comes with a one-touch rotary control and a motorized tailgate. Being a station wagon, cargo room is sprawling and measured to offer 1,865 litres of space with the seats folded. Some smart design work also allows for the boot carpet to be folded in order to form smaller compartments.
Among the premium features in the 508 SW include dynamic bi-xenon headlamps with washers and auto-leveling, Smart Beam Assistance, LED Day Time Running Lights, front and rear parking sensors, 18-inch alloy wheels, Available Space Measurement Aid, automatic quad-zone air-conditioning system, premium leather seats, 8-way front electric seats, colour head-up display, a 10-speaker JBL system with Arkamys sound processing and a five-dial instrument panel with a colour LCD screen. The safety features in the 508 SW include six airbags, an automatic electric parking brake, ESP, ABS, EBD, ASR, DSC, EBA and Hill-Start Assist.
“The wagon market has been relatively small in Malaysia but with the 508 SW, we aim to grow it. The 508 SW offers comfort, elegance and quality with emotion at the heart of it,” said Dato’ Samson.
The on-the-road price for the 508 SW is RM179,888.
508 Standard
The Standard shares the same powertrain package as the Premium and SW variant. It also has the same level of kit as with the others that includes LED daytime running lights, front and rear parking sensors and bi-xenon lights. The safety gear is also as extensive. “The 508 Standard includes a specification list that is far superior than most of its competitors. Moreover, with the 508 Standard, we can now offer this award-winning sedan to a wider spectrum of the market,” said Dato’ Samson.
The on-the-road price of the 508 Standard is RM155,888.
All 508 variants feature sensor-activated headlights and wipers, USB and Bluetooth connectivity, a five-star EURO NCAP rating, front and rear fog lights, leather-trimmed steering wheel, an on-board computer and ISOFIX points at the rear seats for child seats. All five variants come with a five-year/unlimited mileage warranty, an industry-leading warranty package in the Malaysian market.
