BMW F30 3 Series – The CKDs Enter the Fray

By 10 months ago

If you have been complaining above the hefty price tags that the CBU F30 3-Series vehicles have been carrying, there is definitely good news for you. BMW Group Malaysia has recently unveiled the CKD versions of the popular F30 3-Series, and this serves both the 328i as well as the 320d. I can already hear the F30 3-Series fans celebrating out there. And trust me when I say that the price differences are definitely significant! Let’s go into details now.

To be assembled at BMW’s Kulim plant, the 328i will be offered with the Sport and Luxury Line, while the 320d will come in the Sport and Modern Line trims. In terms of performance and mechanical systems, there are no changes from the CBU, which means that the 328i’s 2.0-litre TwinPower Turbo engine will still generate 245bhp of power and 350Nm of torque.

The 320d on the other hand will still appear with the 2.0-litre N4 B30 engine that generates 184bhp of power and 380Nm of torque. The exterior finishing also replicates the CBU units, thus you get gloss black finishing for the trims of the air intake and bumpers for the Sport Line, while the Luxury Line would see these items being finished in chrome. The 320d Modern showcases plenty of chrome matt finishing on the trims, with some interesting light-colour mixing for the cabin area of the car.

18-inch alloys are being offered for the 328i, while the 320d gets slightly smaller 17-inch alloy wheels that however do not look inferior in terms of style or design. The 328i also gets a better in-car entertainment system, in this case an 8.8-inch display unit that comes with Navigation system Professional, a 9-speaker sound system as well as BMW ConnectedDrive. The 320d obtains a 6-inch screen that does not come with navigation or BMW ConnectedDrive, though the 6-speaker audio system is pretty decent to say the least.

The best price is without doubt the pricing, as the 320d is now being offered at a very competitive RM248,800, while the 328i comes attached with a price tag that reads RM289,900 (both OTR with BMW Service Inclusive + Repair but without insurance). CBU prices were RM268,800 and RM309,800 respectively, which means that the prices have really been slashed! A visit to Auto Bavaria is due maybe?
