Every combat team or even at war, the medical team plays an important role in saving lives. ‘Ratchet’, an autobot that transforms into a ‘Search and Rescue Hummer H2’ is the medical officer of the team. In the 80’s television series of the ‘transformers’, Ratchet transforms into an ‘ambulance’ in which the writers of the 2007 movie wanted to retain that vehicle mode of the character but the producers wanted ‘something else’. And so, Hummer H2 took the role.

‘Hummer H2’ is an ‘SUT’ (Sports Utility Truck) and ‘SUV’ (Sports Utility Vehicle) manufactured by General Motors that follows the line of the ‘Hummer’ Brand. It is slightly slimmer, lighter, longer and taller than the Hummer H1 and is also considered as a large truck with room for six passengers including the driver. Since the application for Hummer H2 which is marketed as both an off-road vehicle and general purpose, it is easier to modify the vehicle for a ‘Search and Rescue’ function.

The vehicle includes rear radio controls, 8 way power front seats, heated front and rear seats, cruise control, leather upholstery, air conditioning with tri-zone climate control, tilt leather wrapped steering wheel with radio controls, premium sound system, memory system, 6 disc CD changer, compass and an outside temperature indicator as standard features.

Hummer H2 is a full size SUV class produced by AM General and ‘Avtotor’ under parent company General Motors with engines – 6.0L 325 hp (242 kW) V8 (2002–07) 6.2L 393 hp (293 kW) V8 (2008–2009) and body styles – 4-door crew cab truck 4-door SUV.

In the 2007 Transformer Movie, Ratchet’s voice was portrayed by ‘Robert Foxworth’ which is also ranked as number five (same as ‘sideswipe’) in the autobots team with a motto – ‘If you can break it, I can remake it’. The character implements ‘Optimus Prime’s orders (leader of the autobots) even if it means that he needs to use force but believes that ‘conflict may be solved in a nonviolent approach and peacefully.

We will see more of Ratchet’s robot medical mission to repair autobots in the coming third sequel of the movie which has a working title of ‘Transformers 3’. This time, his color may be changed to ‘white colors and sporting green’ with side panels printed with ‘E4’, optimistically.
